Would strict laws stop rapes?

It is very disturbing every day to open the newspaper and read the story of rapes… We get a disgusting feeling when we hear that father raped his daughter, group of youth molested a girl in the wee hours of a day… Security employee raped lady employee in the latenight…. Cab driver molested lady passenger working in a BPO…. Police molested a lady in police station itself…. I never found a day when I did not see such news in a newspaper…. These incident happens all over the india but they are getting highlighted in Delhi most of the time(In Delhi the intensity is more than other places….)…Uhhhhhh its disgusting……. What makes them to be a cynic person….

Once upon a time we used to say to whole world that we are most well cultured country in the world…. We were proud of what we were… Are we proud of what we are now? Now we are hiding ourself behind the culture to hide the misdeed done by few creatures in our society…. Is rape a new concept in Indian society? Was concept of rape not there in ancient days?

I don't think human nature changes all that much suddenly… I dare to say that soldiers raped the women of conquered nations in ancient times just as they have always done in the pre or post Mughal era.. Apart from war crime in normal life also lot of rape cases were there… But maybe they have not been documented…..

It is not true that men were always allowed to get away with raping women in peacetime. Most societies have had laws against rape and men could be punished for raping women within their own society. But in times of war laws are set aside and raping the women of the enemy would not be viewed in the same way as raping a woman of your own people.

Indian society has a rich history of being a male dominated society. Women had less rights than now.. It was not allowed to get the education for woman… They didn't even count as real humans.. I guess for that reason a lot of the mass rapes were covered up. Due to globalization things are changing.. Indian society is being westernized now a days… Woman are getting educated. They are understanding their rights… Which is a good sign for developing India.

Now question comes why world is crying over rapes in India. Is it the common practice only in India? Is woman respected all over the world except India? Is whole world so innocent and Indians are so crap and they don’t know the ways to protect woman in society? The answer for all those question is big NO. Being an Indian I am not saying whatever is happening or whatever has happened was correct. I thoroughly condemn for the heinous act carried by some coward people. If we see list of Per capita rape in whole world then rank of India is considerably low. It is just a international media biasing who are sensitizing the issue(Media has to sensitize the issue but it should not be biased).

On Thursday 14th March, in one of the village in New York, a man murdered a woman whom he had carjacked at a mall. He raped her 10-year-old daughter. It was just the day before the when Swiss tourist was gang raped infront of her husband in Madhya Pradesh(I truly apologize to entire Swiss nation for the pathetic crime committed by fellow Indians… I am ashamed of calling them as fellow Indians or infact human being also). The latter has become an international issues whereas the former has been largely undiscussed. Why is it so?

South Africa has some of the highest incidences of child and baby rape in the world. A belief common to South Africa holds that sexual intercourse with a virgin will cure a man of AIDS, this concept is quite widespread in most of the African countries. Sweden has the highest rate of rape in all over the world(It was quite surprising to me, because that country is called as a so called well civilized one….). In United Kingdom it has been reported about 230 cases every day. Research has found that about 80,000 American children are sexually abused each year. May be the definition of rape is different in different country. For example in Holland sometime back court had ruled out that forcible French kiss also could be considered as a rape. If above fact shows so many crimes in developed country as well. Then why only India is worst country?

Sometime back I was discussing with one of my German friend about India. She defined India in following way:

"India means: Malaria, Hydrophobia, Diarrhea, Cholera, Hepatitis, Tuberkolosis, Aids, Dengue fever disease, Chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, Influenza, Corruption, Poverty, Castism, regionalism but just in the unusual case a normal human being survives this it will be raped and killed by indians from the slum… What a well cultured country??

Being an Indian I did was not able to convince her that she was wrong. Whatever she said was absolutely correct. That is the perception of India what world has made. It is very difficult to change…. Because world has read the news like:

Nirbhaya has been gangraped in moving bus… Somebody tried to rape British tourist in Agra and she jumped from hotel window to save herself. As already I have mentioned about Swiss tourist incident. Many rape cases in Goa on foreign tourist. Indian actor Shihini Ahuja raped his maid…… 5 years old girl was raped in Madhy Pradesh…. 3 young sisters raped and murdered…. Uhhhhh list will go on…

That is worst part of India. But let’s not divert our attention from the issue. Where is our culture? I tried to study the fact in society….

If you see most of the rapes are done by less educated people(But there are few incidents where well educated people also are involved). Due to poverty lot of people are migrating from small towns, cities to bigger cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc. In smaller cities people are so orthodx and due to which males are forced to  kind of respect to other womans. Because all the time society will be watching them.....

 

When these guys comes to bigger cities where culture is quite open.These people stay away from their family, wife etc. Normal Rikshapuller, hawkers etc people visit once in a 6-8 months to thier family. Being male dominated society people sometime think woman as a utility.... Due to westernized culture in bigger cities these guys go crazy sometime.. Because they will se so many things which they have not seen in their town.. like guy and girls hanging around, Woman wearing less clothes etc etc.... In addition to that illegal Prostitution adds the fuel to that... So just they go for fullfilling their desires somehow... While travelling in Auto I have seen many times the Auto driver teasing girls unnecessorily, unfortunately I did not have courage to stop them....

 

It is sad to hear well educated people also gets involved in those things. I could say these guys are literally insaneand just educated not well cultured....

 

Few people raised the point saying that in bigger cities girls are wearing less clothes on their bodies, which drives male crazy. I say who are you to tell woman what to wear and what not to wear. Instead of instructing woman what to do, why these people behave themselves.....

 

Indian government passed a bill which says that if rape is proven then rapist will get death penalty. But I am sure this will not reduce no of rapes.. No of rapes will be reduced only if people changes their mindset and start respecting. It is never going to happen in the world that country will be rapefree. But with change in the mindset I am sure no of rapes will be reduced...

 

Things are changing in India and Being Indian I am confident people will change their mindset and things will change....
